Senate 2015: Anambra Youth Group endorses Victor Umeh

Following the advocacy call to the Federal Government
of Nigeria by the National Chairman of the All
Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh,
for the institution of an amnesty programme to
rehabilitate youth members of the Movement for the
Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB)
and the Biafra Zionist Movement (BZM), groups from
Anambra Youth extraction, identified as Ibezi Youth
Vanguard, has thrown their weight behind Chief Umeh,
admitting that many youths from Igbo extraction have
been misused by some Igbo leaders.

Recall that Chief Victor Umeh, in a press briefing at
Enugu, enjoined government to release
unconditionally, members of the pro-Biafra groups held
in cells across the country in the spirit of the national
reconciliation and as well urged Federal Government to
halt the prosecution of BZM members arrested in
Enugu and MASSOB members standing trial, in the
spirit of the amnesty.

ASUP Calls off Strike, Academic activities to resume on Tuesday

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, has suspended its industrial action.

The strike has taken its toll on the Polytechnic students during for last 10 months.

The strike which started in October 2013 was suspended today Saturday July 12th by the National Executive Council of the Association. 

The National Publicity Secretary of ASUP, Clement announced the suspension and also stated that academic activities would resume in all polytechnics nationwide from Tuesday July 15th.

The ASUP leadership held what it termed a fruitful meeting with the newly sworn in Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau on Thursday July 10th.

As part of activities heralding the declaration of Chief Emmanuel Uzor (Ikenga Ndigbo) to vie for the seat of House of Representative to represent, Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, EBOHAFED, Ebonyi state, he held a stakeholders’ meeting at LUMEN SUITS, Nkisi, GRA, Onitsha.

During the meeting, Ikenga used the opportunity to bare his mind on the challenges ahead as well called on the stakeholders from mainly, Ngbo na Izhia, Izzi and Effium communities to support his mission to liberate them from shackles of poor representation.

Brave Policemen arrest 6 young men while on robbery at Savannah Bank

This report shows misdirection of the youth energy.

Six young men were arrested by a team of anti- robbery policemen attached to Area A Police Command, Lion Building, around 8:30 a.m on Friday while looting properties of the distressed Savannah Bank, Broad Street, Lagos Island.

Saturday Independent reporter who witnessed the incident observed that the arrested armed robbers were all teenagers between the ages of 18 and 20.  Some residents of the area who gathered at the scene identified some of the boys, saying they had been tormenting residents of the area for a very long time.

A 16 year old victim of rape, Jada has opened up to the press after pictures and video of her naked body went viral on the net.

She got heartbroken to see her friends and other dudes making mockery of her by mimicking her pose while she was drugged.

Jada said that she attended a party with her peers and was drugged before being raped.

According to her, the rapists took several pictures of her limp body as well as a video clip of the rape and spread them over the internet.

UN Adopts New Package to End Boko Haram

The United Nations through the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for West Africa, Said Djinnit said yesterday that they have adopted a new approach to assist the Federal Government in the fight against Boko Haram.

Djinnit made this known at the opening of the 45th Ordinary Session of the Economic Community of West African States.

No going back! Over 200 Ghanians seek asylum to remain in Brazil

Reports show that there is no going back home for some Ghanaian football fans.

Brazilian federal police say that 200 Ghanaians have requested asylum after entering the country on tourist visa to watch and be part of the 2014 World Cup experience.

The Ghanaians claim they are Muslims fleeing inter-religious conflicts in their country. They have filed applications in Caxias do Sul.

Police also revealed that 1000 more Ghanaians are expected to request refugee status once the tournament is over.

A 25 year old man, Shamsu Isa, yesterday told a magistrate court in Kano State that he impregnated his elder sister in error.

Isa spoke shortly after appearing before the court, following a report made by the Ward Head of the Takalmawa Quarters, to the police that the accused person was having sexual intercourse with his elder sister, contrary to the law.

The First Information Report by the police stated that a case of incest was reported to the police following the discovery that Isa’s elder sister, identified as Na’ima was carrying her younger brother’s baby.

No fracas in Onitsha Drug Market

The leaders of the open drug market in Bridge Head Approach, Onitsha in Anambra State has debunked the reports that there is crisis in the market.

According to the information obtained by The Cable Wednesday morning and reported in naij.com, 30 Chibok girls along with 2 other Boko Haram captives managed to run away.

A military source, who pleaded anonymity, was quoted saying:

"All 32 escapees and the hunters who helped them to escape are currently with soldiers."

Boko Haram member speaks to BBC, says the Chibok girls are fine and treated equally, "only prisoner exchange can ensure their release"

A man claiming to be a spiritual teacher with Boko Haram spoke in reserved identity to a BBC World Service. Listen to the interview HERE

According to reports by Tobi Oladipo of BBC Radio, Boko Haram reiterated that only the release of their members will ensure the release of the Chibok Girls:

"Yes we want the Nigerian government to release our members. As our leader Abubakar Shekau promised to the media, if today the government releases our members, tomorrow or the next day we promise you can see all of them (the girls) sure. We would release them tomorrow or the next day." he told BBC World Radio.

The Nigerian Army has taken over Balmo forest following a military operation that lasted throughout the weekend. 

According to the Military spokesman, Lt. Gen. Chris Oluolade, the forest, which stretches from Bauchi through Jigawa States, with links to the fringes of Sambisa forest, was used by terrorists as bases and hideouts for launching attacks. 

Sambisa forest is considered the main base of the Boko Haram insurgent group.
