Super Falcons are Champions of Africa for the 7th Time!

 

The Nigerian national women’s team, Super Falcons, have reclaimed the African title they lost two years ago after they beat their Cameroonian counterparts 2-0 on Saturday in Windhoek, Namibia.

Two goals in the first half from Desire Oparanozie and Asisat Oshoala was all that was needed for Nigeria to claim an astonishing seventh Africa Women Championships title.

27 year old Reyhaney Jabbari (pictured above), was executed today October 25th by hanging in Iran 7 years after she killed a man that she claimed had attempted to rape her.

Reyhaney was sentenced to death in 2009 for the stabbing death of Morteza Abdolali Sarbandi, a former intelligence officer.

The maiden edition of Miss Independence Anambra got underway yesterday with shortlisted contestants storming Awka for camping.

The beauty pageant which is a baby of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS is one of the innovations being introduced by the station's Managing Director/CEO, Mr Uche Nworah in fulfilment of his resolve to make the broadcasting firm a world class.

From over 50 hopefuls, 20 top finalists were selected for the week long camp activities for the historic Miss Independence Anambra 2014 pageant.

Contestants were treated to a classical Welcome Party at Trig-Point Hotels which had in attendance the Director of the Miss Independence Anambra 2014,   Nwando Okwuosa, (Miss Nigeria, 2003/2004), the following commissioners; Obi Nwankwo (Science and Technology), Evaristus Uba (environment), Tony Onyima (Information and Culture) and Prof Solo (Budget and Planning).

Also present were Mr Willie Nwokoye (Principal Secretary to Chief Willie Obiano), James Eze and Emeka Ozumba, Senior Special Assistant and Special Assistant to Gov Obiano on Media.

Some Chief Executives in the State were also spotted at the party including Chief Jonas Tabansi, CEO of Adama Benjo, Chief Ben Uba, MD, Ben Flo Ltd and many other dignitaries.

Recall that the Anambra Broadcasting Service is one of the near moribund state owned institutions overhauled by the Governor of the State, Chief Willie Obiano, on assumption of office, to give it a befitting status and ensure maximum productivity.

New Ebola Case in New York, same day Nurse Nina is declared free of EVD

 

A US Nurse, Nina Pham, has now been declared free of the Ebola Virus.

The National Institutes of Health announced on Friday that the Texas nurse is now free of the virus.

The Turaki Vanguard, a political pressure group, has urged former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), not to contest for the 2015 presidential election, alleging that recent pro-Buhari campaigns are being sponsored by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

According to Thisday report, the group, made up of loyalists of the former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, made the statement on Thursday, 23 October, 2014, saying that Buhari would not improve the fortunes of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in next year’s presidential election.

Boko Haram announces when Chibok Girls will be released

 

New reports claims that Islamist militant group, the Boko Haram, has announced that the kidnapped Chibok girls would be released unfailingly on Monday, 27 October, 2014.

The self-acclaimed Secretary General of Boko Haram, Mallam Danladi Ahmadu, made the claims today stating that the sect’s ceasefire agreement with the Federal Government is still on course.

Ahmadu, who spoke in the Hausa service of the Voice of America VOA, added that the final meeting between the Boko Haram and the Nigerian government has been scheduled for Monday in Ndjamana, Chad.

IPMAN to call off strike as Government Warns Marketers to stop Exploiting Consumers

 

The warning strike embarked upon by the Independent Petroleum Marketers (IPMAN) in Anambra State on Thursday October 23, 2014 is expected to be called off today, Friday October 24, 2014 following the resolution of the immediate concerns raised by the marketers at a meeting held earlier today at the Government House, Awka.

However, Anambra State Government has warned the Independent Petroleum Marketers (IPMAN) in the state to ensure that their members desist from exploiting unsuspecting customers with high pump prices and dispensing of products with maladjusted meters at Filling stations. The warning came in the wake of the “Weigh-and-Measure” spot-checks carried out on October 20 and 21, 2014 by members of the Committee on Petroleum at some Filling stations in Awka and environ.

2015: PDP gives Jonathan, others 7 Days Ultimatum

 

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) cautioned that President Goodluck Jonathan and other party aspirants heading for the office in 2015 elections must buy their expression of interest and nomination forms by October 30.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh made this known while briefing journalists yesterday, October 22:

“The NWC [National Working Committee] today (yesterday) decided that the issue of the closing date for the collection of the nomination forms cannot be extended. It will not be extended beyond 6 pm, of October 30th, no party member can obtain forms for our 2014 congress and convention after the deadline.”

Dominic Adesanya, a Nigerian was apprehended by security dogs after jumping the White House fence.

The 23-year-old Adesanya around 7.15pm yesterday, on October 22nd, scaled the fence on the North Lawn of the building and walked about 20 yards past the fence before he was caught by dogs while the Secret Agents watched.

APGA releases Election Time-Table, Cost of Nomination forms, asks women to pay only 50%

 

All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has released its guidelines for the 2015 elections.

In a timetable entitled: “APGA schedule of activities for primary election 2014” signed by the National Secre­tary, Alhaji Sani Shinkafi, the party pegged the nomination and expression of intent forms for Senate and House of Rep­resentatives at N3.5million and N2.5 million respectively.

The party also announced that the purchase and return of Expression of Interest Forms and Nomination Forms must hold between October 27 and November 4, 2014 and pegged the forms for state House of Assembly at N1.2million.

Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano has assured Ndi Anambra that there will be no case of abandoned project under his watch. Governor Obiano made the pledge to contractors and various groups that paid solidarity visit to him at the Governors’ Lodge, Amawbia over the weekend.

Obiano said his administration was committed to steadfast implementation of the 4Cs programme of Continuing, Completing, Commissioning old projects and Commencing of new projects. According to Obiano: “Our projects are well thought-out and initiated to international standards and specifications and all outstanding contractual obligations and issues are being addressed and honoured.”

Osca de le Renta: American first ladies' clothes designer passes on at 82

 

Oscar de la Renta, one of the most sought-after fashion designers of the last half century, dressing American first ladies and Hollywood stars in his classic silhouettes, has died.

An individual, taking telephone calls at the designer’s residence in Connecticut, confirmed that the designer  died on Monday night at the age of 82.

His  death was first reported by the ABC News.

The New York Times said de la Renta died of complications from cancer.

Mrs. Obiano Calls on Ndi Anambra to support the less privileged persons

Anambra State First Lady Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano on her right Rev Fr. John Manafa (Right), Rev Sister and her special guests the physically challenged pupils and students at the Governors’ lodge Amawbia

The First Lady of Anambra State, Chief (Mrs) Ebelechukwu Obiano has called on Ndi Anambra, especially the wealthy and people of goodwill, to devote some time and part of their resources to caring and helping the less privileged members of the society, particularly, the physically challenged in order to assist them in conquering their challenges. Mrs Obiano made the call last Sunday evening during a special birthday party for physically challenged persons at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.

In attendance at the party were persons with disabilities including the blind, deaf and dumb, the visually impaired and paraplegic students. The pupils were mostly from special education centres like Basden Memorial Special School, Isulo and other centres in the state.

Ojuwu's wife, Bianca blasts Obi, says Peter betrayed Ikemba Nnewi

 

In this exclusive interview with Daily Sun, Bianca looked at the relationship between the late leader of APGA, Ikemba Nnewi, saying Obi had betrayed him, APGA and Ndigbo, even when he was the greatest beneficiary of Ojukwu and APGA influence in Igbo land.

Obiano adopts measures to decongest roads in ‘Émber’ months

  

Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano has taken pro-active steps to ensure a free flow of traffic throughout the last quarter of the year otherwise referred to as ‘’Ember months” by initiating measures to reduce gridlocks and eliminate carnage on both the State and federal roads in Anambra State.

Governor Obiano disclosed this when the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Boboye Oyegun paid him a courtesy call at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, at the weekend.

Mrs Obiano distributes empowerment items to widows, restates commitment to promoting family welfare

 

The wife of the Anambra State governor Chief (Mrs) Ebelechukwu Obiano has distributed various items of economic empowerment meant for widows in the 189 communities of Anambra  and restated her commitment to promoting the welfare of families through her pet project Caring Family Empowerment Initiative (CAFÉ). The items include 200 hair dryers, 200 sewing machines, 500 bags of salt, 150 cartons of soap, 500 bags of rice, 10 bundles of wrappers, 200 bags containing bundles of treated mosquito net, 750 milling machines amongst others.
