THE NEW NIGERIA MODEL FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE

The Research Department of Puritan Law Consult, yesterday Friday, October 31, 2014 in Abuja, flagged off a National Sensitization Programme with the theme: The New Nigeria Model for Good Governance.

The firm's Research Coordinator, Barr. Macdonald C. Akhirome, stated in a media parley in Abuja, that the move is a prelude to a National Civic Programme aimed at providing a democratic platform of practical ideas and procedures for people-participation in governance.

15 Generals Retire from Active Service

  

15 Generals comprising 5 Major-Generals and 10 Brigadier-Generals have ended their active service for Nigeria.

According to news reports, the ceremony took place at the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (NASEME) Auchi, Edo State, on October 31, 2014.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Chief Patrick Obahiagbon, Chief of Staff to Edo Government and Capt. Pius Senebe attended the event.

Miss Chizoba Ejike (Miss Millennium City) has won the 2014 Miss Independence Anambra organised by the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS.

If you missed the grand finale of the history making pageant held last night at Emmaus House, Awka, worry not, I have got all the thrills and glamour in pictures.

Miss Independence Anambra 2014 initiated by ABS MD/CEO, Mr Uche Nworah and directed by Nwando Okwuosa (Miss Nigeria, 2003/2004) attracted huge audience comprising top government officials, business executives, students and all ranks of fun seekers.

But in a twist of fate, Sports Minister and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Tammy Danagogo invited the AFCON winning coach to return to the team and prosecute the first phase of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo, South Africa and Sudan.

The former international said he was not angry against those who relieved him of his assignment but admitted he was ready to return as a sign of respect to Mr President.

Burkina Faso’s President Blaise Compaore was toppled on Thursday as the army took power after protesters set parliament ablaze in a popular uprising against the veteran leader’s 27-year-rule.

NDLEA Arrests 3 Over N131m Drugs: Read Their Confessions

 

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) Lagos has arrested three suspected drug traffickers  for allegedly smuggling 14.650kg of high grade Brazilian cocaine worth N131 million.

The drugs were hidden inside female foot wears and laptop bags from Brazil through Abu Dhabi.

According to the NDLEA Airport Commander, Hamza Umar, who disclosed this yesterday, the suspects are Ezenna Chinonso Joseph, Agu Ifeanyi Kingsley and Okoye Israel.

An attempt to steal a laptop has sent a young man to Prison in Abuja.

An Area 1 Court in the FCT on Thursday sentenced a 23-year-old man, Samson Samuel, to three months imprisonment for attempting to steal a laptop from a car.

The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, who handed down the judgment, gave Samuel no option of fine.

Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has defended the introduction of “stomach infrastructure” by his government saying he goes to the beer parlour every Friday. 

Governor Fayose made this revelation on Thursday while speaking with journalists in Abuja .

The governor who gave his reason for going to the beer parlour on Fridays was in order to enable him to get close to the common man in the state, hence his reason for the introduction of stomach infrastructure which does not mean only sharing of food and money to the people.

FG set to ban Okada nationwide

 

The use of motorcycles as commercial means of transport in Nigeria, popularly known as 'Okada' or 'Achaba' may soon be banned throughout the country.

The proposal for the ban was made by the National Council on Transport after its annual conference in Enugu State and endorsed by the Minister of Transport, Sen. Idris Umar.

The top 20 finalists in the maiden edition of the Miss Independence Anambra Pageant on Saturday, 25th October, 2014 visited the project site of the Agulu Lake Hotel in Agulu, Anambra state as part of their week-long camp activities. On hand to receive them was Mr. Tu, the Project Manager who assured that the hotel will be completed  by the 2nd quarter of 2015. The hotel which boasts of over 70 rooms has a world-class conference centre, ample parking spaces and other sporting and recreational facilities. It is designed to be a tourist attraction with its breath-taking view of Agulu Lake, and also it's midway location connecting easily to the state capital, Awka, the commercial towns of Nnewi and Onitsha and other communities in Anambra state.
