The Festival which began with a cultural display by masquerades from the 21 Local Government Areas on Tuesday December 23 came to a dazzling end on Boxing Day with special Jamblast at the Alex Ekweme Square, headlined by the iconic hip-hop and Igbo rap sensation, Phyno.

Expert Tells Why Synagogue Church Building Collapsed

A self-acclaimed expert in explosives and weapons, Biedomo Iguniwei told coroner court that the collapsed building of Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) was caused by a high energy infrasonic weapon.

Biedomo Igunuwei,  said that the “plane-like object” that flew over the church on September 12 might have fired an “infrasonic weapon” – a low sound radiation used as a weapon to cause structural damage and destruction to objects – that caused the building to crush.

Knighthood: Obiano Charges Obi, Ilozumba to Fight for the Poor, Voiceless

The governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has charged his predecessor in office, Sir Peter Obi and the Hon Commissioner for Works in the state, Sir CallistusIlozumba to use their new position as Knights of St Sylvester to wage a fierce war that will liberate the poor and the voiceless in the society.

Speaking at the special mass held at St Patrick Catholic Church, Awka to mark the investiture of the duo as Knights of St Sylvester, Governor Obiano observed that Knighthood was not an end to the journey but a call to service to mankind.

Brilliantly recalling the historic Siege of Malta when the Ottoman Empire invaded the little island of Malta in 1565 and the heroic exploits of the knightsin the eventual rescue of Malta, Governor Obiano declared that the knighthood demands a high level of social responsiveness from the recipients.

CHUKA OBELE-CHUKA: BEHOLD THE VICTOR UMEH CAMPAIGN DG!

The name "Chuka Obele-Chuka" needs no introduction in the socio-political lexicon of contemporary Nigeria. The gadfly was once called the Gani Faweinmi of the Southeast. He is a fearless activist and a fiery lawyer. He was among the radical Nigerians who dared the military and took to the streets to protest the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election. While Easterners in Lagos were fleeing to the East, Obele-Chuka took a bus from East to streets of Lagos to demonstrate against the abortion of the democratic process.

In 1998, dissatisfied with the bleak state of the nation, Obele-Chuka embarked on two day one man demonstration against the murderous regime of Gen. Sani Abacha. Expectedly, he was swiftly detained by the goons of the Sani Abacha iron fist regime. That did not deter Obele -Chuka though.

PHOTOS: Bishop Ezeokafor Thanks Obiano for Continuity says "Willie Is Indeed Working"

One is greatly moved by the Homily of His Lordship, Most Rev Paulinus C. Ezeokafor on the occasion of the Investiture as Papal Knights of St Sylvester, of Chief Peter Obi and Hon Callistus Ilozumba happening today at St Patrick’s Catheral, Awka, which suggests that continuity is working in Anambra State.

Part of the homily reads:

“We know no one has really succeeded till he or she gets a worthy successor… Following the prayers of our people for a worthy successor to Chief Peter Obi, Anambra has been blessed with Chief Willie Obiano who since assuming office has left no one in doubt about his commitment to the welfare of Anambrarians.

He has worked hard not only to consolidate on his predecessor’s developmental strides in governance, but also to open up new frontiers of development.

… He has kept faith with his avowals to turn around the economy of the state through his 4 point economic agenda which has multiple enablers as ancillary facilitators.

In less than 10 months in office, Chief Obiano, has made remarkable impact in Agricultural, Oil & Gas, Trade & Commerce and Industrial Sectors.

The flyovers springing up in Awka and the ongoing work in different construction sites in the state show that there is no deceleration in the pace of infrastructural development and in commitment to the good people of the State.

To the glory of God and thanks to Chief Obiano’s initiative, there is almost zero crime rate in the State…

Let me plead with all and sundry to assist our energetic and visionary Governor to succeed… Willie is indeed working”

End of Boko Haram: 110 Insurgents Killed by Nigerian Troops in Damboa

I strongly believe the end of Boko Haram is near. No fewer than 110 insurgents were, at the weekend, killed in a gun battle in Damboa, the headquarters of Damboa local government area of Borno State in an attack repelled by men of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army.

The killing of the terrorists came barely 24 hours after troops in support of Civilian JTF killed over 75 insurgents at Dogonwire while attempting to repair the vandalized power transmission line along Damboa- Maiduguri Road since July this year as well as the combing of Tashan Alade and other communities of Hawul local government Area taken over by insurgents.

A security source, who did not want his name in print said that the insurgents- who came mostly in black uniform resembling that of the Nigeria Police, used cattle as their shield, but the troops and the vigilante youth quickly realised their trick and killed all of them.

2015: Enugu Stands still as Over 150 Groups Declare Support for Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi

Ahead of the 2015 Elections, the ‘Prayer/Thank You’ rally organised by Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi Campaign Organisation in Enugu at the weekend attracted over 150 Support Groups.

Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who is a member of the House of Representatives, won the governorship primaries conducted in Enugu State on December 8, by the Electoral Panel from the National Secretariat of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Addressing the mammoth crowd at his rally on Friday, Governor Sullivan Chime told members of the 150 support groups and other eligible voters in the state to go to various offices of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in their council areas and collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to enable them exercise their civic responsibility in the February election.

Chime, who was represented by his Deputy, Ralph Nwoye, said the only way to avoid “faith without good work” and actualize the support for Ugwuanyi’s emergence as the next governor, is for the people to vote massively for him and the PDP in the forthcoming election.

Okey Ndibe in Anambra: "I'm Not a Fan of any Government but..."

 Embedded image permalink
Professor Okey Ndibe , an American University Professor, author and newspaper columnist,  has urged Nigeria to solve its numerous problems stating that our problems does not lie in God’s hands but with us.

Prof Ndibe, who spoke at the reading of his recent novel, ‘Foreign Gods, Inc’ held at Awka on Friday night, said God has endowed Nigeria with so much that the country should not turn round and expect Him to also solve problems, which the nation caused for itself.

He said: “We must solve our problems ourselves. Not even God will solve it for us because he gave us more than our fair share, and certainly, not America because America has its own problems to solve”.

Okey, while admitting that he has never been a fan of government said that he was excited to see that the government of Anambra State under the administration of Chief Willie Obiano has tried to restore hope of the people.

Latest Results from Obiano Xmas Soccer Fiesta

As the battle to determine the lead local government continues, here are some results from the ongoing Obiano Xmas Soccer Fiesta.

If you have not watched any of the matches live then you are missing the opportunity to see real grassroots mobilization. It is interesting to perceive the players’ commitment and observe how Ndi Anambra troop out to cheer their respective teams to victory.

Recall that this is the first time such a huge football tournament, involving male and female, is being held as part of the Christmas Celebration.

Apart from its entertaining value, the Obiano Xmas Soccer Fiesta will go a long way in aiding the development of young talents and place Team Anambra ahead of others in National and International Sporting Events.

Obiano Charges Candidates to go for Victory as APGA Flags off 2015 Campaign

Candidates flying the flag of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the coming general elections were handed a “battle cry” at the formal presentation of flags at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, Anambra State capital Saturday where the new BoT Chairman and National Leader of the party, Chief Willie Obiano charged them to “go and win” all the positions that are up for grabs in the coming elections.

Presenting the flags to the candidates, Obiano who is also the governor of the State stressed that the resounding accomplishments of his government had justified the confidence of the electorate in APGA and therefore provide the candidates the leverage to canvass for votes among the people in the state reasoning that, “our performance should be one of the reasons the electorate should vote for the party.”
