Press Statement: Campaign of Calumny against Chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano

Our attention has been drawn to a calumny campaign being orchestrated to impugn the integrity and malign the character of the Wife of the governor of Anambra State, Chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, Osodieme Aguleri.

The sponsors of this campaign are driven by the desire to smear this innocent woman whose only sin is standing by her husband, Governor Willie Obiano in his titanic efforts to build a new Anambra State. Their goal is to ultimately distract them from the good job they are doing and defer once again the dream of a better Anambra State.

For some time now, financiers of the campaign were only able to recruit pliable hacks in some disreputable online platforms that were eager to peddle all manner of falsehood against chosen targets without a modicum of professionalism or regard to decency and good taste. Our investigation has revealed that these enemies of truth and their agents are currently making the rounds in mainstream media and planting sensational stories with the intention of scandalizing Chief Mrs Obiano and exposing her to public ridicule.  Their plan is to foist an unpleasant profile on her and set the stage for a series of unsavory stories about her.

Read Why the Police Blocked Tambuwal from Entering NASS

You must have heard of the shameful display by the “honourable” members of our House of Representatives. A reprehensible act where our elected representatives scaled through the fence like common criminals. I weep for us all.

Why the blockade?

The Nigeria Police Force has said the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, was blocked from entering the National Assembly, Thursday, so as to forestall the breakdown of law and order based on an intelligence report of the invasion of the National Assembly by hoodlums

Anambra 1st Lady: Concoction of a Depraved Mind

There may never be an end to the depravity of a concocted mind. As I browse through the net this morning I stumbled on a piece of trash from the stable of obvious detractors of the government of Anambra state. What I saw was not in any way different from what have been - noxious pieces from equally deleterious blogs. From all indications the mercenary writers in their depravity appear to have sworn to defamation in hope to cause the Willie Obiano administration some damage and possibly force it to some negotiation. The lies repeatedly told by these fellows even as wicked as they can be, showed the concocters as lowlifes. It does not need much diligence to discover the roguish writers.

They wrote,

Gov Obiano commissions ASATU Administrative Building, Keeps to his Promise to Presidents-General

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has officially opened the ultra modern administrative block for the Anambra State Association of Town Unions

Gov Obiano also doled out cheques of N1.5m each to all the communities in the State for palliative works in rural areas.

Recall that Chief Willie Obiano had earlier promised to give the Presidents-General a befitting office and increase the palliative funds from N1m to N1.5m.

While giving out the cheques, Gov Obiano charged the PGs to make effective use of the funds adding that the state government has commenced repairs on all major roads to ensure smooth yuletide season.

Pastor Bakare Blasts Obasanjo, says "He Killed Students..."

I am not one of his congregants but I say amen to some of his views with respect to national matters.

Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter Rain Assembly has always taken time off his church dealings to air his political views.

He recently blamed the former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo for the present sorry state of student unionism in the country.

Speaking today while delivering a paper titled: “Good Governance: Sustainability of Democracy, the Role of Students in the Forthcoming General Election,” in Abeokuta, the Ogun State to mark the Students International Day, Pastor Bakare, the Convener of the Save Nigeria Group, SNG stated how President Obasanjo when he was military head of state carved his name on marble as a villain of democracy in 1978... But

EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: Obiano at Presidential Villa, attends YOuWIN Launch

OBIANO AND THE CHALLENGE OF GROWING APGA

It is remarkable that in the course of the recent bashing of the All Progressives Grand Alliance by some defecting, notable members of the party and other sundry detractors, Anambra State Governor and by extension, leader of the party, Chief Willie Obiano, largely stood aloof from the fray. It seemed the case that Obiano chose not to utter a word over the altercations in recognition of the need to play the statesman and diffuse the gathering tension. With the benefit of hindsight however, there can be little doubt that aside from prudence, and the business of delivering good governance, the Governor was rather preoccupied with how to grow the party and take it to higher levels. As the foremost public office holder elected on the ticket of the party, it naturally devolved on him to take the lead in harnessing the potentials of the organization.  This resolve to assume the historic responsibility of fulfilling the mission of APGA is evident in certain occurrences in the party. The recent declaration for the party by the immediate past Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc, Dr Alex Otti is a significant development.

Coming at a time critics have been unrelenting in their negative portrayal of the party, the decision of Otti to join APGA just like the earlier case of Emmanuel Iheanacho, former Minister of Interior, indicates that the public perception of APGA has not changed despite the spirited attempts to run down its image.  With people of such stature as Otti and Iheanacho embracing APGA at times like this, it means that the defining values of the party are still intact and perhaps, being better nourished.  Whichever way we look at it, increasing party membership, more so, of the enlightened and elite cadre at a supposed time of crisis, connotes a vote of confidence on the leadership of the party.

End of Boko Haram: Nigerian Troops Re-capture Chibok Town

Here is another reason to celebrate. Yes, if some persons rejoice when insurgents take hold of our territories and cause mayhem, then we have even more right to celebrate the successes of our troops.

The 7 Division of Nigerian Army, on Sunday in Abuja, said it has recaptured Chibok town in Borno State from insurgents.

This information is contained in a statement issued by Colonel Sani Usman, Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 7 Division of the Nigerian Army.

It said the military was still carrying out mopping-up operation on the surrounding environment.

The statement added that Chibok was fully secured.

Note that the insurrection by Boko Haram, which wants to create an Islamic state in mainly Muslim northern Nigeria, has claimed more than 10,000 lives in the past five years.

APGA now general party of Anambra people – Umeh

Chief (Sir) Victor Umeh, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has described his party as “a general party of Anambra people”.

Speaking during the mass defection of over 4,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to APGA, Sir Umeh said the defection signifies that APGA is the only hope the people of the state have for their salvation.

Chief Umeh, who is fondly called Ohamadike, said the significance of the mass defection of APC members is that in the next election, APC can be easily eliminated because the party has been seriously decimated to the extent that nobody can work for it or even vote for it.

As Obiano’s Magic Touch Spreads to APGA…

Michelangelo, the most famous artist of the Italian Renaissance once said that the “the greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.” Two important events in Anambra State last week remind us, in vivid colours, of the dangers of low aim. They are - the visit of Dr. Alex Otti, former CEO of Diamond Bank Plc, who had picked the APGA gubernatorial form for Abia State the previous day and the defection of about 4000 members of APC in Anambra State to APGA.

Coming fast on the heels of the recent emergence of Chief Willie Obiano, governor of Anambra State, as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and Leader of APGA, the two events speak to the clarity of vision that informed the choice of Governor Obiano as the party leader. Perhaps nothing could have spoken louder about the party’s obvious low aim in the past than the near instantaneous rush of hope that Obiano’s new leadership has fueled, leading to the two great events under review. For a while APGA had seemed content with its narrow canvass, straining against the leash of a leadership that obviously lacked the inspirational leadership to attract people of note in the region where it is supposed to have its strongest roots. But with the entry of Dr. Alex Otti, a thoroughgoing technocrat with a towering reputation for excellence in the nation’s private sector, APGA looks sure enough to reclaim the promise it once held for Ndigbo by offering a credible alternative to Ndi Abia; a great sub-sect of the larger Igbo nation whose known capacity for greatness seems to have been stultified for years by bad leadership. It is this low aim that Alex Otti has obviously come to change…
