The act of open defecation is rampant in most towns in the
Ekiti State.
This was observed by Gov Ayo Fayose while monitoring the
monthly environmental sanitation in the state on Saturday.
The governor condemned the act saying it has led to avoidable
diseases. He also charged landlords to provide toilet facilities in their houses.
Gov Fayose said it is shameful that the state should be
noted for such unhygienic act and that a stop should be put to it.
“People defecating in the open is uncivilized. Landlords
should provide toilet facilities in their houses.
“Henceforth, sanitary inspectors and health officials will be
going round to monitor the situation and any defaulting landlords will be
sanctioned.
“We are also working to improve water supply situation in the
state to give more people access to potable water.
“For the past three years now, Egbe Dam has not been working.
The two generators at Ero Dam, which supplies water to nine local government
areas, have gone bad too.
“We have spoken to power authority people and they have given
the assurance of cooperating with us to get improved electricity,” the governor
said.
