National Chairman of All
Progressives Grand Alliance, Chief Victor Umeh, on Wednesday in Abuja said his
party will reclaim its mandate in IMO State and other states of the federation
in the 2015 general elections in the country.
Speaking during the
inauguration of the reconstituted membership of Imo State Caretaker Working
Committee, Umeh charged the new Exco to work hard to reclaim its mandate in the
state.
The party’s new
chairman in Imo State is Peter Ezeobi, a former Commissioner in the Niger-Delta
Development Commission.
According to him the
defection of Governor Rochas Okorocha to the All Progressives Congress was no
threat to APGA, even as he said the party is “fired with greater determination
to recover Imo state from APC.”
He therefore charged
the members to “work hard for the party’s victory in 2015. Don’t go there to
work for anybody but for the party’s victory and win all seats in Imo State
House of Assembly. We shall win the Governorship, National Assembly and House
of Assembly elections in Imo State. Lagos State is open for grabs. Nasarawa
State is there and there are many other states whose citizens are begging to be
saved. We want all members of the party to contribute to the victory song of
APGA in 1015. Always relate with your State chairman.
“Get the people of good
character in Imo State but do not allow yourselves to be manipulated by anybody
so that at the end of the day all of us will smile and we will all take the
glory. Get the good people who will fly our flag. Go for membership drive in
Imo state who have been despondent with the running of the state. Go and knock
on their doors and bring them to APGA. Go and look for the materials that you
need. All the people jostling to fly our flag, you must get them well, but they
will have to prove themselves. We know what to do with all the people who have
constituted a cog in the wheel of progress” he added.
Umeh also warned the
new executives not to allow their personal interest to override the interest of
APGA in Imo State.
According to him, the
inauguration of APGA’s new leadership in Imo State was “in preparation for the
2015 election and all other elections henceforth.”
“The people of Imo
State have been supporting APGA in winning elections since 2003. Events have
not been too pleasant because when we wanted to make greater progress, Okorocha
defected to APC. But we were fired by greater determination to recover Imo
state in the next election. We have taken him to court and the mandate he is
holding belongs to APGA. We will take back our seat in 2015.
“We have a Governor in
Anambra state, we would have soared more higher if not for the misadventure of
your brother, Okorocha. We have members in the National Assembly.”
In his acceptance
speech, Ezeobi promised to “ deliver Imo State to APGA in 2015. We also promise
to settle all differences in the party and we will work with all amount of
unity. We pledge our loyalty to you once more and we will not fail the National
Working Committee of the party.”
