The
Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has been lauded for exemplary
and inclusive leadership style which has seen the embrace of all communities in
the state and the recognition of their needs in the siting of projects. The
commendation was made by the President-General of Amawbia Town Union, Pharm
Anene Maduka, who led a delegation of Amawbia community to a welcome and
solidarity visit at the Governor’s Lodge Amawbia during the week.
Furthermore,
Pharm Maduka said that the entire citizens of the ancestral town of Amawbia
came to welcome the Governor to his residence at the Lodge which was part of Obu Okpaligwe in the ancient days. He
told Obiano, “You are the first Executive Governor in immediate memory that
this town has accorded the honour of a welcome visit. The reason is not
far-fetched. There is something in your star that has guided our instinct to
embrace you as a brother. Your election was the first that all our three wards voted
overwhelmingly for one candidate. This feat had never been accomplished before
by any political party or candidate and clearly speaks volume of the trust and
confidence our town has in you. It shows the un-negotiated love our people had
for you even before your ascendancy as Governor of Anambra State.”
The
President General observed that Governor Obiano has shown from his first deeds
that it is unnecessary for the people to agitate, stressing that when a
leadership has professed clear-headedness, it is simply greed on the part of
the people to resort to agitation. He assured the Governor that Amawbia people
will not resort to agitation. But rather support his efforts like any other
community imbued with the philosophy of co-operation. Mr Maduka on behalf of
the community thanked Governor Obiano for appointing one of their respected
sons, Mr Willie Nwokoye as one of his three principal officers.
In
his response, Governor Obiano thanked Amawbia community for being a peaceful
host and for the kind gesture shown him and assured them of his commitment to
the development of the area which is part of the Capital territory. He however,
advised that their son Mr. Willie Nwokoye’s appointment was on merit because he
found him competent having known him as a good friend in Lagos.
In
his brief remark, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mr Willie Nwokoye
observed that “this is the first time the Amawbia community is embarking on a
welcome visit to any Governor residing at the Governor’s Lodge which is
domiciled in our community. This gesture illustrates a community that has a
mind of its own to be able to recognize a leadership that is people-oriented,
fair minded and purposeful.”
