An attempt to steal a laptop has sent a young man to Prison in
Abuja.
An Area 1 Court in the FCT on Thursday sentenced a
23-year-old man, Samson Samuel, to three months imprisonment for attempting to
steal a laptop from a car.
The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, who handed down the judgment, gave
Samuel no option of fine.
Samuel, whose address is unknown, pleaded guilty to the
charge of attempted theft.
The accused had pleaded with the magistrate to tamper justice
with mercy.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sergeant Abdul Alhassan, had told
the court that on September 26, one Salawu Ademo of Nigerian Customs Service,
Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, reported the incident at Utako Police Station.
He said the accused used a master key to open the
complainant’s Honda Accord car with the intention to steal a laptop before he
was apprehended.
Alhassan said during police investigations the accused confessed
to the crime and the master key was recovered from him.
He said the offence contravened Section 95 of the Penal Code.
