The First
Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dame Dr. Patience Jonathan, has
charged Knights of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, to act as agents
of transformation by ministering to the faithful so that the transformation
programmes of the government will permeate all parts of the country. Dame
Jonathan made the call yesterday in an address delivered on her behalf by Wife
of the Governor of Anambra State, Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano, during the
Joint Council of Knights, Anglican Communion Delegates Conference holding in
Onitsha, Anambra State.
The First
Lady said that the theme of the Delegates Conference “Occupy till I come,”
taken from the Bible passage of St Luke is apt for Nigeria which is
undergoing transformation and require all hands on deck especially
men and women of faith who are well placed to provide leadership at all levels.
Dame
Jonathan assured the Joint Council of Knights of the commitment of President
Jonathan to total transformation all aspects of national life, and urged for
equal commitment of all Nigerians to enable the nation flourish together in the
years ahead. She prayed to God to give wisdom to the Anglican Council of
Knights throughout the conference to come out with useful suggestions so that
conditions necessary for healing can take place across the country.
Chief Mrs.
Obiano also conveyed the apologies of her husband the governor of Anambra
State, Chief Willie Obiano for inability to attend due to an important
engagement in Abuja, but assured the Anglican knights that his administration
is does not favour denominations, but is rather committed to delivering on all
his election promise to Ndi Anambra.
Earlier the
new President of the Joint Council of Knights, Sir Joseph Ilonze, who was
enthroned during the conference as the 19th President, said in his acceptance
speech that President Jonathan has done well and deserves a second term in
office. He also noted that during the last gubernatorial election in Anambra no
one believed Anambra would be safe but governor promised to improve security of
lives and property, and has delivered that since coming into office to the
satisfaction of all in Anambra and called on the people to support the governor
to continue doing well.
