Authorities of the University College Hospital
(UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State, have sent home Taiwo Ogunkunle, a patient in need of
surgery, for indebtedness to the hospital above the ceiling of allowable credit
for a needy patient.
It would be recalled
that the story of Taiwo, a JSS 3 student, who had been hospitalised since
February this year in the hospital as a result of injury sustained after a fall
on her way from school and which necessitated surgery, was published last
week.
Taiwo had a slight
fall, with a minor wound that she did not even report to her mother and it
degenerated to a disease diagnosed as chronic osteomylitis at the UCH, and in
the hospital card marked 1271700, as sighted by our reporter, she “is awaiting
decortication and flap cover surgery”.
Her mother, Temitayo
Ogunkunle, a weaver, of Abebi area of Adamasingba, disclosed that the UCH
authorities had carried out their threat to eject her daughter due to the
inability of the family to raise the required amount.
The 41-year-old mother
of five, having given birth to twins twice, lamented that her daughter’s
condition became worse on getting home as she fell down again, and the family
now relies on good Samaritans to help them out.
Worried and dejected,
she said it was difficult for her to give an estimate of what she and her
husband, a carpenter, had committed to the care of the young girl, as she
further appealed for assistance.
On account of last
week’s publication, Temitayo told Saturday Independent that
help had started coming in through donations to her Guaranty Trust Bank
(GTBank) Account: Temitayo Alake Ogunkunle 0138547120
