Jonathan unveils trophy for the first Nigeria Local Government Sports Festival

President Goodluck Jonathan has unveiled the trophy of the first Nigeria Local Government Sports Festival, assuring that the Federal Government would provide both technical and logistics support to ensure its success.

Acccording to Daily Independent reports, Jonathan who stated this while receiving the National Organising Committee (NOC) of the first Nigeria Local Government Sports testival in Abuja, said the Federal Government would liaise with all agencies, especially the Federal Ministry of Sports to provide the needed support for the festival.

The President
represented by the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs,  Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, used the occasion to condemn the attitude of politicians who use the security situation in the country as a means to score cheap political point rather than supporting the government in its efforts to curb the activities of the insurgents in the country.

The chairman of the NOC, Solomon Gbenga, said the proposed Sports Festival, otherwise known as Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Unity Sports Carnivalí was being organised, in recognition of the efforts of government in the Transformation of the Nigerian economy and also to lend the support of the committee to the  Transformation Agenda of this administration.

Solomon stated further that his committee was a group of young patriotic  Nigerians who want to partner with government to contribute their own quota to the national development, peace, security and youth re-orientation in the country.


He stressed that the idea of the carnival was anchored on the wordings of the second stanza of the Nigerian National Anthem.

Developing sports from the grassroot... Once well managed, I see Nigeria as world Champions!
