The Speaker of the House of Representatives won today as a Federal
High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned indefinitely a suit that was filed him.
Reports have it that Justice Ahmed Mohammed on Tuesday
adjourned the matter sine-die (indefinitely) to await the outcome of an appeal
challenging the refusal of the high court to join a group of lawmakers from
Sokoto State as interested parties to Tambuwal’s suit.
It was disclosed that those that sought to be joined in the
substantive suit were Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki who is representing Tambuwal
East, Suleiman Hantsi (Tambuwal West) and Shuaibu Umar (Kebbe Constituency).
The applicants had through their lawyers Mr. Israel
Olorundare, SAN, and Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN, indicated their intention to
oppose the move to remove Tambuwal as Speaker, contending that such action
would deprive them of representation in the House of Representatives.
It was gathered that both Tambuwal and the Peoples’
Democratic Party, PDP, opposed their request to be joined as interested parties
in the suit.
Consequently, Justice Ahmed in a ruling on December 1,
refused the joinder-applications on the premise that the subject matter of the
suit before the court could effectively be decided.
