Speaking at each stop during the visitation, Mrs.
Obiano told the inmates that as a mother she came with message of love because
Christmas is a celebration meant to be shared with loved ones especially those
of them who are currently restricted by their circumstances. According to Mrs.
Obiano, “I came to celebrate with you because as the wife of the governor I am
privileged to be the mother of all in the state, I see you as an important set
of the one big family. The fact that you are in here does not mean that you
cannot come out reformed and better than others and able to contribute to the
service and progress of our state.”
Always remember that you are in Prison to be reformed
and rehabilitated into the society. Mrs. Obiano told the inmates. “In fact, I
bet one of you may even turnout to still be governor of Anambra State one day,
but for that to happen you have to turn a new leaf and give your life to
Christ. I can assure you that I always remember you in my prayers and I want
you to also pray to God to enable you change and avoid acts that may bring you
into prisons”. The message of love was a common theme by the governor’s wife at
all the facilities visited.
She expressed concern about the large number of
inmates on awaiting trial and assured that she will bring her observations to
the attention of her husband who will liaise with the relevant authorities to
ensure that something is done.
Welcoming the wife the governor to Amawbia, Prisons,
Assistant Controller, Mr. Chris Akabueze, told her that most of the inmates
could not contain their joy when they heard that she was coming. “You can’t
believe that some have not eaten because they are waiting for your food. We are
happy that you came and would use this opportunity to request your assistant
with our needs. Such as the repair of our water pumping machine, payment of
fees for inmates due for junior WAEC exams”.
Earlier at Onitsha, the Assistant Controller of
Prisons Mr. Felix Ezengwo, expressed gratitude to Mrs. Obiano for the love
showered on the inmates and urged her not to relent as God would continue to
bless her for good works.
Mrs. Obiano donated various items including one cow to
each facility, ready to eat rice and meat in packs, bags of rice, noodles,
tubers of yam, beverages, soap and detergents for washing and laundry etc.
