Team Nigeria ended the
just concluded Commonwealth Games at eight position on the medal table.
Nigeria won 11 gold, 11
silver and 14 bronze medals an improvement from their overall performance in
Delhi 2010 where they finished ninth with 11 gold, eight silver and 14 bronze
medals.
With a total number of 127
athletes, Nigeria not only recorded a better result but improved in over-all
performances at Glasgow 2014 than the 2010 Games in Delhi, India.
For the first time,
Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare won the sprint doubles, setting Games 100m record
of 10.85secs. She won silver in the 4x100m relay.
England topped the table
with 58 gold, 59 silver and 57 bronze medals while Australia finished
second place with 49 gold, 42 silver and 46 bronze medals.Canada placed third with
32 gold, 16 silver and 34 bronze medals.
South Africa in seventh
position as first Africa nation after winning 13 gold, 10 silver and 17 bronze
medals.
Kenya closely followed
Nigeria in ninth with 10 gold, 10 silver and five bronze medals.
