Katsina Gov locks up student in a cell for exposing his fertilizer scam on Social Media

 

Premium Times has reported about a student of the National Open University of Nigeria, Abdulmalik Sa’idu, who has been languishing in a police cell for over 20 days on the orders of the Governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema, for posting details of an alleged fertilizer scam in the state on his Facebook wall.

This was disclosed to Premium Times by Mr. Sa’idu’s family and lawyer. Abdulmalik was first invited to the Katsina Government House on August 28 by a phone caller who claimed he had a message for him. But when Abdulmalik arrived at the governor’s office, he was promptly arrested, handcuffed and taken to Batagarawa Police Station just outside the state capital, Katsina, and detained on the orders of Mr. Shema’s aide-de-camp, Shehu Koko, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP.

Obiano’s Economic Programmes Attract $382m Investments to Anambra State

 

Governor Willie Obiano’s pursuit of excellence in Anambra State has continued to resound across the world as the investment community recently responded to his economic programmes by investing a whopping $382.3m (N62bn) into various strategic economic segments in the state.

Out of this sum, a total of $220m was signed in at the weekend when two major investors decided to swoop on the agricultural and tourism sectors of the state. The companies are Joseph Agro Ltd which pumped in the sum of $150m into the Omor Rice Mill project in Ayamelum Local Government Area of the state and Cardinal Developers Trust Ltd which is investing the sum of $70m in a four-star hotel project in Onitsha respectively.

I read analysis of one writer in the Vanguard newspaper of Friday 19th Sept, 2014 on the chances of aspirants scrambling to represent the people of Anambra central senatorial seat. My conclusion after the analysis is that Sir Victor Umeh will do better than the rest. My reasons are these.

Ngige who is the only force to contend with looks like he is better disposed to play politics in the state level. He has not shown enough sparks up front. Ekwunife may never get the ticket of her new party with Obiora Okonkwo having been entrenched both in Abuja and the politics of the Catholic church. Obiora will  throw a feeble punch in a ring where Victor squares. Okelekwe is a good man but he will be lost in the sea of more vibrant politicians of the Awolowo stock. Victor has the boldness, and a bit of brashness needed for the job of the upper chamber.
