Professor Okey Ndibe , an American University Professor, author and newspaper columnist,  has urged Nigeria to solve its numerous problems stating that our problems does not lie in God’s hands but with us.

Prof Ndibe, who spoke at the reading of his recent novel, ‘Foreign Gods, Inc’ held at Awka on Friday night, said God has endowed Nigeria with so much that the country should not turn round and expect Him to also solve problems, which the nation caused for itself.

He said: “We must solve our problems ourselves. Not even God will solve it for us because he gave us more than our fair share, and certainly, not America because America has its own problems to solve”.

Okey, while admitting that he has never been a fan of government said that he was excited to see that the government of Anambra State under the administration of Chief Willie Obiano has tried to restore hope of the people.

He described the event as “the best reading and best event that is done anywhere in the world” saying he could not believe that the reading of his book in Awka was possible and he felt deeply honoured by that.

Speaking further after listening to Anambra Anthem, he felt a certain force in him “that we are finally going into the right direction. All of us must demand a new direction of doing things in the state”, he added.

Recall that Obiano recently introduced an Anthem for the State which has been widely described by Ndi Anambra as stimulating and uplifting.

Ndibe expressed gratitude for the event, saying he never knew he will read before his mother and the big names at the venue.

Present at the ceremony were Secretary to Anambra State Government, Hon Oseloka Obaze, Hon Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Tony Onyima, SSA Media, James Eze, MD/CEO of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Uche Nworah, SA Media, Emeka Ozumba and many other government officials, the academia, journalists, the authors, mother Elizabeth and elder brother, and the traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Iweka.

The Edge Crew, a movie production group led by Ifeanyi Aniagoh, thrilled the audience with a piece titled “Birth of a New Land”.
