The wife of
the Anambra State governor Chief (Mrs) Ebelechukwu Obiano has distributed
various items of economic empowerment meant for widows in the 189 communities
of Anambra and restated her commitment
to promoting the welfare of families through her pet project Caring Family
Empowerment Initiative (CAFÉ). The items include 200 hair dryers, 200 sewing
machines, 500 bags of salt, 150 cartons of soap, 500 bags of rice, 10 bundles
of wrappers, 200 bags containing bundles of treated mosquito net, 750 milling
machines amongst others.
Chief (Mrs)
Obiano told the widows who converged at the governors’ Lodge, Amawbia for the
distribution, that the items were part of the donations from Her Excellency Dr
(Mrs) Dame Faka Jonathan during her recent visit to the State on October 4,
2014 for the South East Widows Empowerment Programme. She extolled the virtues
of Dame Patience Jonathan in caring for the needy, and noted that such
initiatives complement CAFÉ’s role in providing succor to the indigent and down
trodden in the society.
According
to Chief (Mrs) Obiano “CAFÉ is committed to supporting the welfare programmes
of Chief Willie Obiano administration which promotes strong and healthy families through assisting and supporting vulnerable
groups amongst Ndi Anambra to feel the
impact of government and eventually
contribute to the socio-economic development of the state.”
Mrs. Obiano
assured the widows that the items are not exhaustive but are being distributed
in line with CAFÉ’s phasing of the
provisions and support to them to make
sure that the empowerment materials eventually get round to others who could
not benefit now. The donations were carefully spread with every community encouraged
to send a coordinator and three widows to collect their share and take back
home for distribution.
