Obiano Strives to Deepen Democracy, Meets Royal Fathers across Zones

As part of his on-going efforts to deepen the democratic process and engender an inclusive administration, the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has embarked on extensive consultation with royal fathers and community and opinion leaders in and outside the state, holding fruitful meetings with traditional rulers at the weekend to carve out a faster footpath for accelerated development of the state. 

Speaking during a recent tour of Anambra South and Anambra Central political zones of the state, governor Obiano explained that as paramount rulers of their respective domains, the royal fathers constitute a formidable block in the democratic process as they connect more directly with the people.

Taraba Crisis: Gov Suntai arrives Nigeria, sets to take over

 

Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State arrived Abuja on Saturday at 10 p.m. after months of medical treatment in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Suntai later addressed selected journalists at a guest house belonging to Theophilus Danjuma in Asokoro, Abuja.

“I just arrived in Nigeria after my treatment abroad at Whalton Hospital in London,” the News Agency of Nigeria quotes the governor as saying. “I thank God l’m getting better, l am happy to be back home and you all are here to receive me. Thank you all for your prayer sand support.’’

Popular South African athlete, Oscar Pistorius has been  found guilty of culpable homicide in shooting dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

According to Judge Thokozile Masipa, Pistorius had acted “negligently” when firing four hollow point rounds into a locked toilet door in the early hours of Valentine’s Day 2013.

Nigeria is Ebola Free - FG

The Nigerian Ministry of Health has announced that the country currently has no active case of the deadly Ebola virus. 

According to posts by the spokesman for the Minister of Health, Dan Nwomeh, he revealed that the nation has recorded 12 cured and 7 dead from the virus brought into the country by Liberian Patrick Sawyer.

The World Health Organisation, WHO, estimates that over 2,296 have already died from the disease since it broke out early this year in West Africa.

Government’s effort to broker peace between the Anglican Communion and the Nkwelle Ezunaka Community is yielding desirable result as the fact finding panel set up by Chief Willie Obiano, submitted their report today.

The panel has Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke as its Chairman. Other members are; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prof Joe Asika, Barr Azuka Enemuo (Commissoner for Local Government), Prof Kate Omenugha (Commissioner for Education), Barr Stella Onuoha (Commissioner for Lands}, Barr Chuma Mbonu (Commissioner for Transport) and Chief Tony Onyima (Commissioner for Information and Culture)

The world football governing body, FIFA, has finally contacted the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, after its ultimatum expired on Monday, 8 September, 2014.

NFF was given until Monday morning for a rival faction to relinquish control of the NFF and for its embattled President, Aminu Maigari and his staff to be allowed back to their posts after having seen off two attempted bids to sweep them from office over the last months.
