Why I have not visited Obiano - Peter Obi

The immediate past governor of Anambra State, Chief Peter Obi has said he deliberately refused to visit his successor, Chief Willie Obiano because of the promise he made during the handover ceremony.

Obi promised, during the handover ceremony, not to mediate in the governance of the state in order to allow Obiano tackle the challenges without distraction.

The former governor dropped the hint during the commissioning of the prayer ground built at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Awka-Etiti, in memory of the four children of Emmanuel Obiukwu, namely Chioma, Ifeoma, Uche and Chidimma, all killed in the 2011 bombing of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, Niger State.

Obi said on the day he handed over government to Obiano, he made it clear that there was no agreement between Obiano and himself and that he deliberately decided not to visit Awka and distract the new governor.

“I speak with him and we met when it is necessary. I will support him as he works for the interest of the state, and I urge Anambra people to support and pray for him,” Obi said.

Obi, who did the commissioning, took the opportunity to call on Nigerians to continue to support the President in his fight against terrorism. He thanked God for granting the parents of the deceased the fortitude to bear the barbarism visited on them.
