During a trip to the mostly Muslim nation of Albania, Pope Francis rebuked militants who act in the name of religion, saying no one can act as the "armor of God."

According to CNN reports, the Pope lauded Albanians during a visit to the capital of Tirana, calling the Balkan nation one that proves "a peaceful and fruitful coexistence between persons and communities of believers of different religions is not only desirable, but possible and realistic."

Why Victor Umeh remains the best for Anambra senatorial election

 

I read analysis of one writer in the Vanguard newspaper of Friday 19th Sept, 2014 on the chances of aspirants scrambling to represent the people of Anambra central senatorial seat. My conclusion after the analysis is that Sir Victor Umeh will do better than the rest. My reasons are these.

Ngige who is the only force to contend with looks like he is better disposed to play politics in the state level. He has not shown enough sparks up front. Ekwunife may never get the ticket of her new party with Obiora Okonkwo having been entrenched both in Abuja and the politics of the Catholic church. Obiora will  throw a feeble punch in a ring where Victor squares. Okelekwe is a good man but he will be lost in the sea of more vibrant politicians of the Awolowo stock. Victor has the boldness, and a bit of brashness needed for the job of the upper chamber.

Six months ago when Chief Willie Obiano mounted the saddle of leadership in Anambra State, there was understandable anxiety among Ndi Anambra. The outgoing governor Peter Obi’s humble disposition and outstanding performance had left people wondering if anyone else could sustain the tradition of excellence he had established in the state, let alone improve upon it. The collapsed building was being demolished by 8 workers before the incident.

Three persons have been confirmed dead while five others where rescued from the rubble.

Since I admire men who carry out their duties with finesse and the necessary professional touch, I was filed with joy when my pal, Obot Etuknwa (standing with a camera in the picture above) was enlisted to undergo a special course in Lagos courtesy of his dedication to duty as a Channels TV staff.

Obot is among the few personnel trained by Voice of America, VOA on Advanced Techniques in Camera and Lighting Operation.

Don’t be alarmed!

A renowned journalist Nicholas Ibekwe took to the Social Media to share an audio proof of T.B Joshua offering journalists (who are covering the building collapse) N50,000 to 'fuel' their cars after he met with them behind close doors at his church premises.

After giving them the money, he asked them what they planned to write and some of them said whatever he wants them to write. He asked them to talk about the people who were rescued/survived and not focus on the people who died.

Following his endorsement as sole candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for next year’s election, President Goodluck Jonathan has promised  to count on the support, goodwill and prayers of patriotic Nigerians as he strives to give the best possible leadership for the country.

The President said so in a reply to a young Nigerian, Ezemagu Sunday Nnamdi, who sent a donation of N10,000 for his re-election bid. Nnamdi is currently doing his National Youth Service.

Jonathan said he was deeply touched and encouraged by the support his administration continues to receive from young Nigerians.

Obiano’s Bulldozers demolish more kidnapper's buildings in Anambra

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has remained resolute in his determination to free the state from violent criminals as three more buildings used by kidnappers as “warehouses” for their victims went up in a plume of dust and debris in the quite town of Nando  in Anambra East Local Government Area on Friday.
